“The funeral is not only for you, it’s also for those you leave behind, who might gain some emotional comfort from having a funeral ceremony alongside the cremation or burial,” advises Kim.

“To ensure you have the type of funeral you want, and to avoid possible family arguments over the arrangement details when you die, we strongly recommend you tell your family of your funeral wishes or involve them with the planning detail, so they have a clear understanding of what you want, and – vitally important - the reasons why,” she says.

“There’s a lot to be said in favour of no frills funerals - there's less of an expense and it's a more modern approach to a memorial.  But they’re not for everyone.  If, however, the idea of a fuss-free, no-frills funeral appeals, then it’s certainly an option worth giving serious consideration.”
